Description

Lantern slide of George Berkeley, Cork. Originally labeled 'D3 95' with title 'Br. Berkeley's Mount.' Berkeley (1685-1753) was a celebrated philosopher who developed his theory on "immaterialism." He was also known as Bishop of Cloyne, where he remained until 1752 upon retiring. His effigy is housed in St. Colman's Cathedral Cloyne, a 13th century cathedral. The effigy is located in the north transept of the cathedral. He is seen lying with his hand resting on his chest, holding a book. It is acredited to the Irish School.
