Description

Lantern slide of a bossi mantlepiece, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 94' and with title 'Detail of Bossi Mantlepiece.' Pietro Bossiwas an Italinan craftsman who worked in Dublin between 1785-1798. Bossi was praised for perfecting the technique of inlaying marble chimney pieces with scagliola designs. The slide shows a section of one of his works. It is classical in design, like all his work, and features foliage and a border reminiscent of ancient Greek pottery.
