Description
Lantern slide of the Lesser Dublin Civic Sword, Co. Dublin. Originally catalogued with label 'D3 VII 66'. Depicts a close detail of Dublin's Lesser Civic Sword. Made from iron in the late 16th Century it was used when riding the franchises, a circuit of the municipal boundaries made on horseback once every three years. The cross guard, grip and pommel of the sword were made from silver in 1608 by James Bee.
