Opis

Lantern slide of an illustration of Grattan Bridge ( known historically as Essex Bridge) Co. Dublin. Originally catalogued with label 'D3VII 97.' Depicts an illustration of the bridge as it would have appeared before it was rebuilt in the mid 1700s (the statue of King George 1 on horseback, which was removed during that rebuilding, is visible in the image). The illustration depicts a scene along the river with the bridge and quayside buildings visible in the background, and carriages and figures visible walking and fishing along the bank. The bridge was originally built in 1676, rebuilt in 1753, and remodelled again in 1872. When it reopened in 1874 it was renamed Grattan Bridge.
