Description
Lantern slide of the Lumbard Inscription, Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 IV 64' and with the title 'Lumbard Monument. Christ Ch. Dublin.' This inscription can be found in the south transept of the cathedral in the Laurence O'Toole's Chapel (Archbishop of Dublin, 1162-1180). The inscription is written in Norman-French. William Butler translates it as "John Lumbard, of the County of Parma, and Dame Rame, Paris, of St. Saviour, of Estruria, his wife and and all their lineage, died whilst in this country, lie here." Given the style and content of the inscription, it is believed it was written in the 14th century.
