Description

Lantern slide of the Exam Hall, Trinity College. Originally labeled 'D3 II 11' with title 'Exam Hall. H Commons Can'. Designed by Sir William Chambers in 1785, the Exam Hall is located at the Front Square. The building consists of a large single chamber with an apse. The walls are decorated with pilasters in Composite order. Between these are full-length portraits of Queen Elizabeth, Primate Ussher, Dean Swift, William Molyneux, John Fisher, Dr Baldwin and Bishop Berkeley. Also in the hall is a monument erected in memory of Dr Baldwin, a former provost who died in 1758. The monument is made from porphyry and black and white marble. The chandelier in the slide is made of gilded wood and originally came from the House of Commons.
