Beskrivelse

Lantern slide of scribings found in Knockmore Cave, Co. Fermanagh. Originally labeled '32 F' with title 'Scribings on the Sides of Knockmore Cave, Near Derrygonnelly, Co. Fermanagh.' These rather primitive, early Christian symbols have been etched into the walls of the caves in groups. They do not appear to follow any symmetrical order and many of them have been eroded over time. The symbols are made up of crosses, with some enclosed in triangular shapes. In some casses cross hatching, interlacing knots and figures of 8s are present. These images can be found in the Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy Vol. 10, 1866-69, pg. 229 (article), plate XXI by W.F. Wakeman, Esq.
