Subject
Link Extinguisher
Description
Lantern slide of a link extinguisher at N. Great George's Street, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 60' with title 'Nth Great Georges St. H. Link Extinguisher'. Link boys were boys who were hired to carry around torches so pedestrians could see in the night. Link boys were popular in Dublin before street lamps, although there are records of them working during the Renaissance. What is present in the slide, is a link extinguisher. These were used to put out the torches held by the boys.
