Description
Lantern slide depicting a cross slab in the Clonmacnoise monastic site in Clonmacnoise, Co. Offaly. Originally titled 'Clonmacnoise 3l. H.G.L' and labelled 'K4 43'. The image depicts a gravestone from the Clonmacnoise Monestary ruins. As Clonmacnoise was a favored spot for Kings and dignitaries in Ireland in the 6th to 7th century, many of the gravestones are inscribed with their name. There are over 700 in Clonmacnoise one of which is depicted in this image. The stones are now kept in a visitor centre in Clonmacnoise. The partial slide depicts a celtic cross engraving, with a name that could be O Rourke.
