Lantern slide depicting the remains found in a central cicst in an excavation site at Lug, Co. Offaly. Origianlly titled 'LUG-OFFALY a. Carroll Dublin' and labelled 'K4 30'.The excavation site the remains were found in consisted of a number of prehistoric burials, with human remains found in various cists, under the cairn it was placed in. The excavation was undertaken by the Royal Antiquarian Society of Ireland, by Micheal O Duigeannain. The exact location of the excavation site could not be determined. The cairn was approx. 65 feet in diamater. There were multpile burial chambers and remains found in the site, both human an non-human origin. In the central cist depicted in this image human remains were found. They were of an elderly female, lying in a crouched position on her right side. In addition to the remains a foodbowl was found beside her head.
