Description
Lantern slide depicting St. Brendan's Church, Birr, Co. Offaly. Originally titled 'Birr.Ch' and labelled 'K4 20'. The image depicts the church of St. Brendan in the town of Birr. The monument was built c. 1815 and designed by John Johnston. It is built in the Gothic style and is located in the Oxmantown Mall. It was extended in 1876 by the renowned architect Sir Thomas Drew who added a new chancel. Further enhancements included the insertion of the east window, which was commissioned from Charles Kempe by the fourth Earl of Rosse in 1891.
