Beschreibung
Lantern slide depicting Proleek Dolmon, in Ballymascanlon Hotel on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth. Originally titled 'Proleek Cromlech Dundalk Co Louth' and labelled 'L5 17'. Proleek Dolmon still exists today, but has been added to by modern building techniques in order to preserve it. The Dolmon is also known as the portal tomb, from the name given to the two stones supporting it which also fram the enterance to the burial chamber. In addition to the three supporting stones, and the large one across the top, there are generally a scattering of smaller stones across the top. This is due to a local legend which claims that if you throw a stone onto the roof of the Dolmon, you will be married within a year. Another legend surronding this monument, is that the giant Parrah Boug MacShagean placed the large cap stone on the other stones, and is burried in the local area. In this slide, an umbrella can be seen leaning against one of the supporting rocks, possibly to give some idea of the size of the monument.
