Description

Lantern slide of Magh Adair, Co. Clare. Originally labelled '3:60' and titled 'Maghadhair, Clare T. MASON, 5 Dame Street, Dublin.' The slide depicts both the man made mound in the background and a basin stone in the foreground that is believed to have been used as part of inauguration rituals on the mound. Magh Adhair is beside the Hell River in the townland of Toonagh, Co. Clare. The mound is believed to have been used for the inaugeration of the Dalcassian Kings of Thomond, including Brian Boru, between the 5th and 16th centuries.
