Lantern slide of Cahercommaun Stone Fort, Co. Clare. Originally catalogued with labels 'C3 7' and '8 Valley of Glencurraun with Cahercommaun fort on the cliff Co. Clare 1913'. The stone fort depicted is located on the edge of a steep valley. The fort lies on the edge of an inland cliff facing north overlooking the valley of Glencurraun. It has three concentric walls. The outer wall measures some 350 ft east-west by 245 ft north-south. The inner wall is about 5 ft thick and 4 ft high and rises 12 to 14 feet above the cliff. The innermost wall forms an almost complete circle while the two other walls form only a semicircle. It contains three chambers wihin the wall. The fort would have been home to roughly forty people and was built around 800 AD.
