Description

Lantern slide of Pigeon House Fort, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 IV 70' and with the title '1822.' This image was created by J. Sadler and is dated c.1824. The artist depicts the fortified Pigeon House Fort and Barracks which was located inbetween Ringsend and the Poolbeg Lighthouse. The fort was consctructed after the 1798 Rebellion, and was looed after by the Department of War between 1814 and 1897. The fort was used to protect the Pigeon House Harbour - an exit for the British if there was a successful rebellion.
