Lantern slide of an illustration of Rutland Square, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 IV 61' and with the title 'Rutland.' The development of Rutland Square coincided with the construction of the Rotunda Hospital which opened in 1757. During this period a numner of large scale Georgian houses were built around the pleasure gardens of the Rotunda. The name of the Square was changed in 1933 to Parnell Square. In the corner of the image, opposite the horse and caridge, Charlemont House is just visible. This property was designed in 1763 by William Chambers for James Caulfeild, the 1st Earl of Charlemont. Also depicted in the illustration, are a number of people walking along the street.
