Description

Lantern slide of Fade Street, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 IV 45' and with the title 'Fade St from Georges St. Dublin.' Fade St. is located in the south inner-city of Dublin. The slide depicts the street in a time where its buildings were used as tenament houses. These grand Georgian houses were transformed into the symbol of the extreme poverty of inner-city Dublin. These buildings were in a bad state of repair and were extremely over crowded. By the early 20th century, the city had the poorest housing condidions than any other city in the United Kingdom.
