Description

Lantern slide of a sketch of City Hall, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 IV 39' and with the title 'Newcomen Bk + R Exchange.' City Hall, or the Royal Exchange is known as one of Dublin's finest 18th century buildings. In 1768, the Merchants of Dublin decided to comission the architect, Thomas Cooley, to build a new exchange building. Construction ceased after 10 years in 1779, and the building's design marks the introduction of neo-classical style to Ireland. Next to City Hall in the slide is Newcomen Bank. It was designed by Thomas Ivory in 1781. In the sketch a number of people are drawn standing infront of these buildings.
