Description

Lantern slide of New Market, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 IV 37' and with the title ' 30 New Market. Old Flemish Houses.' New Market and its surrounding area, including Weavers' Square, formed an area that was once at the centre of Dublin's leather, clothworking, tanning and brewing/malting industries. It was here that a number of immigrant merchants constructed their own traditional houses (Dutch Billies) with gabeled fronts to incorporate their shops. In the slide a boy can be seen standing infront of one of these buildings.
