Depicts a close-up view of the saloon ceiling's stucco work. The stucco work depicts Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, holding a spear with an unidentified figure beside her. Rococo style borders and decorations, including garlands, foliage, and cherubs, surround the piece. Newman House was the original location of the Catholic University of Ireland, and was named for Dr. John Henry Newman who was rector of the university. The University was founded in 1854 and was the precursor of University College Dublin.
