Beschreibung
Lantern slide of an interior in Newman House, Co. Dublin. Originally catalogued with labels "No 86 Stephen's Green Staircase Landing" and "D3XI" and "55." Depicts a close-up view of a window on the staircase landing in number 86. The window is surrounded by typical Georgian decorations such as Corinthian style columns on both sides, stucco work showing musical instruments, and cornices and friezes. A note on the bottom of the slide reads 'No. 86 St. Stephen's Green Window on Staricase'. Newman House (which consists of houses 85 and 86 Stephen's Green) was the original location of the Catholic University of Ireland, and was named for Dr. John Henry Newman who was rector of the university. The University was founded in 1854 and was the precursor of University College Dublin.
