Beskrivelse

Lantern slide depicting Sandycove strand with a view of the 'forty foot hole' Dublin, a promontory from which people have been swimming in the Irish sea for the past approximate 250 years. There is no definitive explanation for how the name came about, thought it is thought it was named after the 42nd Highland Regiment of Foot (now known as the Black Watch), a regiment of the British Army, which is said to have been stationed here. In the photograph can be seen a group of people standing on the promontory. Originally catalogued as 'D 3 IX 38' with the label 'Sandycove'.
