Description
Lantern slide depicting the General Post Office, O'Connell Street, Dublin. The foundations stone of the GPO was laid by Lord Whitworth on the 12th of August 1814. The architect was Francis Johnston. After the building was destroyed during the 1916 Easter Rising, reconstruction on the building was led by Ofice of Public Works (OPW) team led by TJ Byrne. Originally catalogued as 'D3 VIII, 79' with label 'GPO'.
