Lantern slide of Swords Castle, Co. Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 III 5' and with the title 'Castle Gate, Swords.' This castle was built c. 1200 as the residence of the Archbishop of Dublin. Pictured is the entrance of the castle. Located in the South, it consists of a gated archway with rectangular towers marking each side. To the east is a chapel with a residential tower. This spans three storeys and has a vaulted ground floor. The site spans one and a third acres which is encased in a curtain wall.
