Beschreibung

Lantern slide of a round tower, Clondalkin, Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 III 48' and with the title Clondalkin.' The tower is made of calp limestone with a granite finish on the window jambs and the door. On the top floor there is four rectangular windows and further light is provided by small square-headed opes. There is a buttress located at the base of the tower, it is not original but it is unknown when it was added. There are no records dating the construction of this tower, although the Annals of Ulster state that the relics of St. Kevin and St. Mochua were taken on tour in 790 AD, and it is thought that it may have been built around this period. St. Cronan (also known as Mochua) is ascribed to the founding of the monastery in Clondalkin.
