Description

Lantern slide of a church, Killiney, Co. Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 III 37' with the title 'Killiney, Co. Dublin: Church Doorway.' 'Photographed by J.L. Robinson' is written at the bottom of the slide. Originally the church consisted of a nave and choir connected by a semicircular arch. The entrance is located at the west gable and has a cross decorating he underside of its lintel. The choir arch, which is visible in the slide, is only 6.5 ft. in height. Through the arch, a window located at the east side chancel can be seen. From the interior and exterior it appears square- headed and has a usual splay. A man can be seen standing underneath the arch. The ruins of this ancient church date from the 11th century, although the site could have been occupied as early as the 6th century.
