Description

Lantern slide of Dun Angus, Co. Galway. Originally labeled '82 G' with title 'Aran Dun Angus from the Sea.' Known locally as Dœn Aonghasa, this is an large cliff-top fort the follows a rough D-shaped plan. The fort is enclosed by three semicircular stone ramparts including a series of defensive stones known as a 'Chevaux de Frise.' Excavations undergone in the early 20th century revealed that settlement on the site dated as far back as c. 1500 B.C. The slide shows the fort at a distance.
