Description
Lantern slide of Athenry Castle, Co. Galway. Originally catalogued as '28' with label 'Athenry.' The slide highlights the castle's poor condition prior to 1990 when the National Monuments Branch of the Office of Public Works started work on its restoration The structure contains a three-storey tower, surrounded by defensive walls, that is entered at first-floor level . Among the ruins there seems to be a lumber yard and accompanying tools. There is also a man reclining upon one of the tree stumps.
