This neoclassical work of Italian provenance is sculptuted from marble and dates to c. 1737. It belongs to the Trinity College Art Collection and is now hosted in the Classics Department of the college. The plaque underneath the relief reads: ' Demosthenes at the Altar in Calauria.' Demosthenes was a prominent Greek statesman and orator born in the late 4th cenury BC. The location shown in the slide is not definite, but it appears to be inside the Old Lbirary in the college.
