            Description
Lantern slide of unidentified stucco work, Dublin. Originally labeed 'D3 50' and without a title. Irish Georgian interiors are know for their decorative plasterwork by the likes of John Stapleton (1747-1801). Stapleton was the most skilled stuccodor working in the neoclassical style that dominated Dublin inteior decoration. The stucco pictured is a good example of the nature of this style. A figure of a woman stand with a basket of fruit balanced on her head. It is steeped in classical style with the drapped fabric and contrapposto pose. The figure is encosed by folliage which continues above her head, spralling outwards.
