Opis
Lantern slide of the interior of the Nation Museum of Ireland - Archaeology, Dublin. Originally labelled 'D3 7' and without a title. The National Museum of Ireland opened on August 29th 1890, after it's foundation under the Dublin Science and Art Museum Act of 1877. The building on Kildare street was custom built to house the Leinster House collections which had previously been scattered accross various buildings in the city. This slide details a marble sculpture of a male youth reclining, holding a book in his right hand which is held to his chest. It is in the classical style. In the background, display cabinets can be seen holding other items displayed in the museum. Slender cast iron columns can be seen holding the balcony upright, which have been decorated with elaborate capitals and cherubs.
