Description

Lantern slide depicting the markings found on the Clonfinlough Stone in Co. Offaly. Originally titled 'ABRE' and labelled 'K4 23'. The image depicts the carvings on the glacial boulder on Esker Hill. The markings are thought to originate from the Bronze Age, however there are more recent theories that claim due to the similarities between markings on this monument and others in a variety of locations the stone may have been used as a stopping point for travellers. Therefore the markings that cover the stone extensively, could be from a variety of time periods.
