Description

Lantern slide depicting the high cross found in Durrow Abbey, Durrow, Co. Offaly. Originally titled 'KING'S COUNTY. X no 9 T.MAYNE, DUBLIN. Durrow Cross 9' and labelled 'K4 21'. The image depicts the high cross found in Durrow Abbey, which was founded in the 6th century by St Colomba. Originally, the cross is located West of the Church and is adorned with multiple Celtic designs and scenes from the bible. At the time the image was taken, the high cross was located outside of the Church, however in 2004 the cross was relocated into the church to protect it from future damage.
