Lantern slide depicting drawings of the Castlestrange Stone, Co. Roscommon. Orignally titled 'Stone at Mullaghmark CASTLE STRANGE Co. Roscommon' and labelled '38:31'. Mullaghmark has been crossed out. The slide depicts Castlestrange Stone, It is a granite boulder decorated with flowing spirals in the La Tene style, dating from the Iron Age period. La Tene style of decoration originated in around 500 BC and came from Switzerland across to Ireland and the rest of Europe. The stone itself dates back to 200 BC. The exact function of the stone it not certain, however it is assumed that it would have served in a ritual. The slide itself depicts two drawn images of the ston from different angles, showing the decoration on the stone.
