Description
Lantern slide depicting Kilronan Holy Well and Cursing Stones, Co. Roscommon. Originally titled 'Kilronan Holy Well and Cursing Stones, Co. Ross' and labelled 'R 22'. The slide depicts St. Lassir's holy well, which is located across the road from Kilronan Abbe. When Cromwell's soldiers desecrated and tried to block off the well, it re-appeared in its present location at the bottom of the hill. In addition to the well, two walls can be seen in the slide with stones ontop, which the slide title identifies as cursing stones. Cursing stones in mythology were used to put evil on people, and needed to be buried or laid in a site of great significance.
