Lantern slide depicting St. John's Castle in Carlingford, Co. Louth. Originally titled 'CARLINGFORD CASTLE MASON DUBLIN' and labelled 'L5 50'. The image is of a monument called both Carlingford Castle and King John's Castle, and is located on South side of Carlingford Lough. It was comissioned by Hugh De Lacey in the 12th century. The area built during this time became known as the West wing, with the section known as the East wing added in c. 1261. The monument got its name when King John stayed in the castle during the 13th century.
