Lantern slide depicting a window from the Chapter House, Mellifont Abbey, Co. Louth. Originally titled 'Chap Ho Mellifont' and labelled 'L5 27'. The image is of the North window of the Chapter House in the abbey. Such a building would have been used for large meetings or prayers. These ruins are known as Old Mellifont Abbey, and was the first Cistercian monastery in Ireland. The abbey was founded in 1142 by Saint Malachy, Archbishop of Armagh. The ruin is located near Collon, by the banks of the river Mattock, 6 miles North of Drogheda.
