Description
Lantern slide depicting a student riot outside Trinity College Dublin. The riot took place on March 12th 1858 and was in protest at the arrival in Dublin of lord Lieutenant Archibold Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton. The protesters encountered Montgomerie’s entourage of honourable lords and high-ranking British military men parading about outside and the sight led to the students flinging oranges in the direction of police. Originally catalogued as 'D3 VIII 62' with labelling 'Charge on students TCD 12 Mar 1858'.
