Description

Lantern slide of a drawing of Drimnagh Castle, Co. Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 III 13' and with the title 'Drimnagh Castle.' In 1215 the lands of Drimnagh were granted to Hugo de Bernivale, a Norman knight and it was on these grounds he built this castle. This 13th century structure was built from local limestone, and consists of a Great Hall, a medieval undercroft and a large battlement. Another notable feature is the garden surrounding the castle with its many plants grown for medicinal, culinary and decorative purposes. The drawing depicts a man walking along a pathway towards the castle.
