Description

Lantern slide of Swords Castle, Co. Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 III 6' and with the title 'Swords Castle, and Ruins of [?]ern Hill.' This castle was built c. 1200 as the residence of the Archbishop of Dublin. Pictured is the ruins of the castle. The entrance is located in the south, and consists of a gated archway with rectangular towers marking each side. The site spans one and a third acres which is encased in a curtain wall.
