Subject

Round Tower

Description

Lantern slide of a round tower, Lusk, Co. Dublin. Originally labeled 'D3 III 33' and with the title 'LUSK.' This round tower forms a detached turret to the 15th century belfry tower. The tower contains 8 floors and is made from limestone. The tower is entered at the south-east side and its interior is lit by narrow windows. It was St. MacCullin who founded the monastery at Lusk around 450 AD, but the only remains of an Early Christian foundation is the round tower. A man can be seen standing next to the entrance of the tower.
