Description

Lantern slde of a cross slab or ballaun stone, Killadeas, Co. Fermanagh. Originally labeled '54 F' with title 'Killades 2.' These rather ambigious stones were belived to hold magical and religious powers. Characterised by their large hemispherical depressions, these can be dated to megalithic times, although the presence of cross on the reverse sugests it was adapted for Christian use. These bullauns come in various shapes and sizes. See JSRAI, Seventh Series, Vol. 5, pp. 23-33
