Subject
High Cross
Description
Lantern slide of a high cross, Galoon, Co. Fermanagh. Originally labeled '39 F' and without a title. It is believed that St. Tiernan founded the monastery on the island. There was once four High Crosses located in the graveyard, but only two shafts remain. All sides of the crosses are highly decorated, but over time have been greatly weather damaged. On the north face the lower panel is believed to depict Samuel kissing Saul or David, and the upper panel could be Samuel anointing Saul or David. These panels are then separated by two animals.
