High Cross
Description
Lantern slide of a high cross, Galoon, Co. Fermanagh. Originally labeled '36 F' and with title 'Fermanagh'. It is believed that St. Tiernan founded the monastery on the island. There was once four High Crosses located in the graveyard, but only two shafts remain. All sides of the crosses are righly decorated, but over time have been greatly weather damaged. The panel depicted shows a bibical scene, but due to the poor state of the cross it is hard to decipher the figures. A figures can be seen standing above another figure who appears to be bending down.
