Description
Lantern slide of the O'Heyne Chapel at Kilmacduagh, Co. Galway. Originally labeled '67 G' with title 'Kilmacduagh O'Heyne Ch.' The chapel is located on a site of a monastery founded by St. Colman in the 7th century. The O' Heynes were a local royal family who were able to exert their influence during the foundation period of the monastic site. A fine example of an Irish Romanesque building, many of the chapel's original features remain including the east window (pictured). An exterior view shows the pair of round arched windows located in the chancel.
