Lantern slide of town gate of Athenry, Co. Limerick. Originally catalogued as '33 G' with title 'Athenry N. Gate.' The slide shows a southwesterly view of the last remaining of the five town gates. This gate would have been part of the town wall which started construction c. 1310 , after the town received a murage tax. It should be noted that this image was taken before the major reconstruction of the tower was put in place.
