Description
Lantern slide of a door frame found at 58 Mountjoy Square, Dublin. Originally labelled 'D3 51', with title '58 Mountjoy Square'. Mountjoy square was developed by the Gardiner Estate in 1789 on the North, West and South side of Mountjoy Square (originally called Gardiner Square). Mountjoy square was originally laid out in 1791 and constructed between 1793 and 1818. In the 1970's it witnessed extensive demolition. In the 1980's, No. 58 was demolished. The building was rebuilt in c. 1989 as part of the Urban Renewal Bill of 1986. The slide shows a door frame decorated with stucco work. The top of the door frame has a heavily decorated border. Below are garlands that meet in the middle to form an urn shaped object. Inbetween the garlands appears to be bunches of fruit but it is unclear.
